One of the top music application from Airtel, Wynk Music announced that it has crossed 75 million app installations across the world. The one-stop music app was launched in 2014. The Music platform has a collection of over three million songs, including music in 12 Indian regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, and Kannada accounted for a majority of the growth in the regional content.

Sameer Batra, CEO of Wynk quoted that “It is really gratifying to see the overwhelming response from our users. We believe it’s an outcome of our unrelenting focus on innovation to deliver a great in-app experience driven by superior content curation with a sharp focus on regional music. Affordable smartphones and increasing penetration of high-speed data services will continue to add to the uptake of music and other content on smartphones. At Wynk, we will continue to bring more exciting innovations to make add to the music experience of our users,” he further added that “While overall music from Bollywood continued to rule, it was Indian regional music streams on Wynk that stole the show and grew by over 100 percent.”

Apart from this, the platform is contributing over 3 percent of the overall music streaming. The remixed versions of Bollywood classics continues to grow popular on the streaming platform. Airtel is also stating that 13 percent of its active users are from rural India, and these contribute nearly 10 percent of all the overall streams. However, user interest in international music continued to grow the audience on the large scale. For example, Shape of You by Ed Sheeran crossed 100 million streams, while Spanglish single Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, and featuring Justin Beiber, crossed 75 million.
